The Lightning Shutout By The Diamond Dawgs, 7-0
(Leesburg, Fla.)- The Leesburg Lightning were kept silent on Thursday night, falling to the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs 7-0.
The Diamond Dawgs would strike first on a miscue that would score 3B Andy Perez, allowing Winter Park to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Lightning and Leesburg starters would both silence each other's offenses, with right-hander Andrew White for Winter Park and All-Star right-hander Tyler Donay throwing flawless innings from 2nd through 5th.
From the 1st onwards through the 5th, both starters combined only allowed three hits total, with Winter Park still protecting a 1-0 lead.
The Diamond Dawgs would strike in the bottom of the 6th after earning a clean inning from reliver Jacob Pino, tacking on three runs coming off an Andy Perez RBI single and an RBI ground rule double from SS Isaac Nunez.
Winter Park would continue to add on in the 7th and 8th inning, tacking on three more runs and jumping out to a 7-0 lead.
The Lightning would grab three base hits in the final two frames, including a pair in the 9th, but Jacob Pino would hit the door on a convincing victory for the Diamond Dawgs.
Tyler Donay was the bright spot for the Lightning, tossing five innings on the mound and giving the Lightning a shot offensively by keeping it a one-run ball game.
Leesburg is back in action again tonight, looking to get back into the win column against Winter Park at home. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
