The Lightning Grab Win #16 over The Diamond Dawgs, 6-4
(Leesburg, Fla.)- The Leesburg Lightning were able to battle back in the later innings against the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs, keeping them in the top spot of the FCSL.
In the bottom of the 2nd, 1B Collin Priest was able to get the Lightning out in front early, connecting on an RBI single to give the Bolts a 1-0 lead.
The Diamond Dawgs would tie it back up a few short innings later off an Ethan Young solo blast to right field, putting things at 1-1.
Defensively, Leesburg would see two huge defensive plays during the 1-1 tie, with Orlando Pena turning a 5-2 double play, while Riley Fitzgerald connected on a dart to the plate to prevent a run scoring for Winter Park.
Two innings later, the Lightning would load the bases for Logan Chapman, who would connect on a grand slam, the franchise's 20th all-time, putting the Lightning up 5-1.
The Lightning would hold onto the lead coming out of the top of the 7th, but only by a slim margin. Sam Downey was able to push a runner in due to him being hit by a pitch, while Andy Perez was able to capitalize on the fielder's choice, scoring in two runs to make it 5-4.
In the bottom of the 8th, the Bolts would add an insurance run by an RBI single from Riley Fitzgerald, giving Leesburg a 6-4 lead.
Nick Vieira would shut the door on the Diamond Dawgs, grabbing his second save of the season.
The Lightning will return to action tonight, closing out a three-game set over the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
