The Lightning Bounce On The Diamond Dawgs, 14-5
(Leesburg, Fla.)- The Leesburg Lightning bats produced big time, bringing across 14 runs in a 14-5 victory over the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs.
Leesburg would strike quickly in the bottom of the 1st off a RBI-single from Keeton Burroughs, giving the Bolts a 1-0 lead through the 4th.
Some of that protection came from starting left hander Daniel Foster, who threw three innings of two-hit baseball, preventing Winter Park from getting going offensively.
Orlando Pena would add on to the lead in the bottom of the 4th to propel Leesburg out to a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the 5th, Winter Park would begin to work back into the ballgame, plating across four runs and giving the Diamond Dawgs their first and only lead of the night, 4-2.
The lead would be short lived, with the Lightning grabbing three runs, including one coming off an RBI-single from 1B James Strom, putting the Bolts back in front, 6-4.
The Lightning would hold the lead the rest of the way moving forward, but nine runs would come across in the final three innings.
Leesburg would grab the first five in the 6th, coming off of four RBI-base hits including two RBI-doubles from EH Drew Clymer and CF Michael Furry.
In the 7th, Winter Park would grab their final run of the ballgame on a balk that scored in CF Sam Downey, with Leesburg still up 11-5.
That would be short lived. In the bottom of the 8th, EH Collin Priest would connect on a three-run blast, his 4th on the season, and giving the Lightning a run rule victory.
In the game, all 12 Leesburg hitters (both starters and subs), got on base at least once, making it a true full-team effort on Saturday.
The Lightning will be back in action tonight against the Sanford River Rats, making up two games beginning at 4:30 p.m.
